The fact that a product was incorporated some time ago does not, in itself, preclude the Committee’s involvement. Products incorporated more than a year ago may be subject to review when they:
• show a significant and demonstrated increase in budgetary impact;
• require negotiation prior to procurement by the Ministry of Health;
• are covered by contracts subject to renegotiation;
• have not yet been effectively made available;
• require new economic or operational conditions for the continuation or expansion of supply.
A medication incorporated years ago, procured regularly, and operating in a competitive market may not require specific intervention. However, the situation must be re-evaluated if there is significant growth in demand, supplier concentration, supply difficulties, or a need for renegotiation.
